Bassist, guitarist, singer,
songwriter Jan Jakubowski is Jan the Man. Jan is originally from the Philadelphia
area where he worked as a full-time musician and built and operated Hickman Studio.
Jan played in popular Philly bands Wilmont Mews, Five Mile Beach, Phantasia, Fresh, Rage,
Foxx, Phoenix (Philadelphia B. C. / Philadelphia) and Joey and the Runarounds. To
his credit, Jan also played bass on many recording sessions in L. A., New York and
Philadelphia, with releases on the Lifesong Records and Warner Brothers Records labels. Jan and Hickman Studio are now located in Buckhall, Virginia near Washington, DC. Along with developing guitar skills, Jan has launched the HickmanMusic.com website, home of Jan the Man, Hickman Studio, Hickman Records, Badda Bing Badda Boom, Eric Sanchez and the Herb Brooks Orchestra. Jan is always working in the studio and embraces creative invention, but he prefers the fun and excitement of live performance. During the Fall of 2001, Jan had the pleasure of playing with the Leisure Scientists opening for Jimmy Buffet at Nissan Pavilion near Manassas, Virginia and Jimmy Thackery & the Drivers at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia. On March 10, 2004 Jan made a Special Musical Appearance at the 11th Annual Funniest Celebrity in Washington Contest as a member of Congressman Collin Peterson's Band featuring the legendary Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Jan is currently performing with the Hot Water Soup Band, engineering and producing collaborative projects and putting the polish on his own projects.
